The exterior of the headquarters hotel, the Renaissance Grand, also at 8th and Washington Streets.
More than once, Cindy and I said it was worth staying at the headquarters hotel as many events, the breakfasts, affiliate meetings, the Gala, reception for Rebecca Reeves, DPG receptions, were held here. We could get there quickly from our room and rarely needed to wear a coat. We dined at the Capri Restaurant. Another dining spot, "a very good restaurant", was reservations-only. Anybody get in?

The position of state president has its perks such as priority housing at the headquarters hotel. We had to use our room key to enable the elevator to go past the tenth floor. Our floor, the eighteenth, even had its own bar. The room was beautiful, don’t you think, and looked out over the entrance to the America’s Center.

I just loved this chair. I could live the rest of my life in this hotel as long as the service came with it. And, if Cindy lived in it, too. It really helped to have the state president point me in the right direction.

The Capri was the restaurant where most of us dined. Located on the Concourse level of the hotel, it offered a great view of the atrium, three stories high and the menu offered good, regional food for city prices. By the time Cindy and I arrived, the breakfast bar was still open, offering hearty, tasty brunch food for $15.00. We really appreciated this meal as our repasts for the rest of our stay ranged from full breakfasts, served to us individually as we were seated at our meeting tables, to breakfast bars found in bags delivered to our door by vendors. Getting enough sleep and finding time to do everything was the challenge at FNCE.
