ADAF Gala Dessert

Janet K. Little, MPH, RD, LDN

President-elect, Pennsylvania Dietetic Association

Then, we ate a delicious dessert, Cheesecake with Raspberry Sauce Featuring Splenda No Calorie Sweetener with Gourmet Columbian Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Assorted Herbal Teas, Served with Splenda No Calorie Sweetener.

We saw the General Mills Champions Video as this company has partnered with ADAF to bring Healthy Weight for Kids Initiative to the public in October 2001.  Over $1.5 million dollars has been awarded through the Foundation’s partnership with the General Mills Champions Grants programs.  ADAF’s Healthy Weight for Kids also includes Family Nutrition and Physical Activity Study and Assessment Tool as well as the Evidence Based Library.

The Closing Remarks and presentation of the ADA Foundation Corporate Award Recipient, McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson Company.  Founded in 2001, McNeil Nutritionals is an international consumer nutrition company that markets foods and dietary supplements.  They are located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.  McNeil Nutritionals has been a generous sponsor of the ADA Foundation Gala for the past four years.

We were almost fooled by the announcement that Tina Turner was coming into the room!  A singer impersonating Tina Turner gyrated and strutted around the room before taking the stage in a Tina Turner wig and the trademark great-legs short dress.

The dietetics professionals, their spouses and friends really joined in by taking the stage themselves.  That really is ADA President Rebecca Reeves on the right.  The dietetics professional in red to "Tina's" left did a mean twist!  Members crowded the dance floor and spilled onto the carpet.  Did anyone see Pat Harper do a fine Electric Slide?

I would strongly recommend to anyone attending FNCE in the future to also attend the Gala.  Communicate with friends and fellow state members so you do not sit alone, although meeting strangers would broaden your network.  (We met members and non-members in the street, in the airport, on the shuttle).  Communicate with Cindy and me; we’ll look for you.  Of course, if you became state president-elect, the budget would cover the cost of your ticket to the Gala, registration and travel and food two years in a row.  You can dine with your peers on the Board of Directors between dances at the Gala and maybe dine at the VIP table.

I know Cindy and I enjoyed representing you, our association and even our state to everyone we met.  There is a big difference in the attendee experience as a board member versus as a non-board member.  Maybe it’s the corsage.  Maybe it’s the ribbons dangling from the ID badge.  But, people respect you; you get priority housing, and have a definite role in the proceedings of a most interesting convention and exhibition.
