The third funding area for American Dietetic Association Foundation is Research Endowment.

Pennsylvania Dietetic Association Members were well represented in the list of major donors to the Research Endowment set up by the American Dietetic Association Foundation. This poster was displayed at the ADAF Café, a breakfast meeting I attended with other state presidents, president-elects and ADAF representatives to focus on how to keep ADAF’s profile high in our states.
The Gala program booklet and the poster above showed the reader how Pennsylvanians and others helped the Foundation to reach its first $1 million towards the ADAF Food and Nutrition Research Endowment. Because of the following Evergreen Society, 21st Century Club and other contributors, ADAF will be able to provide even more funding for Dietitian-led research. This is why Cindy and I were able to stick three ribbons onto our name badges: Evergreen Fund, 21st Century Fund, and Million Dollar Club.
Now, I am referring to our lovely Leaders, Legends and Legacy Gala program booklet to better define these funds encouraging you join these efforts in raising ADAF's next $1 million or at least respect those who have already done so.

To be listed under The Evergreen Society, one has to donate $4,200 -
$9999. This is an awesome sum as the average ADA member donation to ADAF
is under $50. We applaud, from left to right, top row, Judy Dodd, Rita
Johnson, Penny Kris Etherton and Sara Parks, above, for contributing.

The only district dietetic association listed under Evergreen State &
District Associations is our own Pittsburgh Dietetic Association,
largely due to the years-long fund-raising efforts of Inez Speranza,
pictured above. The ADAF sent the
following email to the PADA membership about the Pittsburgh Dietetic
Association's support of the Evergreen Fund.
Members of the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association and the Pittsburgh Dietetic Association:
We wanted to express our gratitude to every one of you who support the ADA Foundation with donations of your time and money. We strive to be completely accurate in our donor recognition, but regrettably we made an omission in the recent ADA Foundation Donor Report published in the September/October ADA Times . We are extremely proud that the Pittsburgh Dietetic Association is a member of the Evergreen Society—a high-level giving club supporting the ADAF Research Endowment. Not only is Pittsburgh Dietetic Association a member of this giving club, they were the first, and currently, only affiliate group to so generously support this cause.
Please accept our thanks to each member of the Pittsburgh Dietetic Association and our sincerest apologies for the omission indicating your membership in the Evergreen Society.

To be listed as a 21st Century Club Donor, one has to contribute $2100 - $4199. Grace Fried and Pauline Gaffney were the generous donors from our state. The Pennsylvania Dietetic Association is listed under 21st Century Club State & District Associations. In a real sense, you donate to this fund when your state dietetic association budgets this contribution every year as our income comes largely from 10% of the yearly ADA dues coming from your affiliate, Pennsylvania. Thank you.

Are you in the following dietetic practice groups? Clinical Nutrition, Consultant Dietitians in Healthcare Facilities, Dietitians in Nutrition Support, HIV/AIDS, Management in Food and Nutrition Systems, Oncology Nutrition, Renal Dietitians, Research, and Weight Management? These DPGs are listed under the 21st Century Club Dietetic Practice Groups.
Gold level Donors to the ADAF donated $2099-$1500 last year. Those belonging to the Gerontological Nutritionists DPG proudly donated at this level.
School Nutrition Services DPG donated $1499-$1500 and was listed under Silver Level Donors.
Two Pennsylvanians were listed as Other Contributors to the Research Endowment: Shortie McKinney who now works in West Virginia and Carolyn Gaydos. If you belong to the Dietetics in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation DPG, consider yourself listed.

Another way of supporting ADAF was by purchasing a table at the Gala. Corporations purchased tables at $2000 each and non-profits paid $1500 by September 15, 2005.
Companies who purchased a table and made a gift through their purchase to the Foundation’s Annual Fund were ADA, The Almond Board of California, American Council for Fitness and Nutrition, The Coca-Cola Company*, The Cattlemen's Beef Board and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association*, Computrition, Inc., ConAgra Foods Foundation, Diabetes Care and Education DPG, Ecolab*, Fleishman-Hillard*, Food Marketing Institute, General Mills*, Gerber Products Company*, Health Management Resources*, Herbert and Nylda Gemple, International Food Information Council*, Karen Lechowich, The Kellogg Company*, Kraft Foods, Maryland Dietetic Association, McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson Company, Mead Johnson Nutritionals*, Minnesota Dietetic Association, Morrison Management Specialists*, National Dairy Council*, Oncology Nutrition DPG, Ross Products Division,* Abbott Laboratories*, Sara Lee Food & Beverage*, Slim-Fast Foods Company*, Sodexho Healthcare Services*, The Sugar Association*, U.S. Food Service*, WM Wrigley Junior Company*.
*These companies made a gift to the Foundation’s Annual Fund through their gala table purchase.

PADA paid for Cindy and I to go to the Gala wearing our name tags, ribbons and all, and our corsages from ADAF's Fund Raising Cafe and Medallion Award Breakfast concurrently Sunday morning. Thanks to everyone mentioned above and your ADA dues, we fit right in! Next year, in Honolulu, I will attend the Gala as will the president-elect you vote for in coming elections. Thank you.
