Keep the message simple. In your presentations, try not to speak for too long or else the message will not be heard effectively.
Use audiovisuals. Whenever possible use the ADA recruitment materials and video to communicate the dietetics career message.
Be prepared. Read up on ADA membership categories, annual dues and educational requirements for becoming a RD or DTR. This will save time and enhance the professionalism of your presentation.
Know your resources. You are not expected to know everything, but when something comes your way that you are unsure of, refer the person to talk with someone else or get back to him/ her with a correct answer or contact name/telephone number.
Make people feel comfortable. During presentations consider incorporating an icebreaker activity to get to know your audience and have them get to know each other.
Evaluation is key to improving presentations. Whether it’s a short questionnaire or a brief discussion period at the end. It is important to get feedback to uncover any strengths or weaknesses of the presentation.
Follow up. It is crucial that you follow up your presentations with a letter or e-mail. This is a great way to say thank you and for them to ask any unanswered questions.
