- Karen is featured weekly, offering health tips on WYOU channel 22 and WBRE channel 28 weekly newscasts and WVIA 88.9 FM public radio.
- Karen is also the Registered Dietitian for the Million Pound Meltdown, a year-long weight management program designed to address the above-average rates of obesity found in 13 counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
- The program challenges area residents to register with the program and lose weight. Every person who registers for the Million Pound Meltdown receives a wristband. This wristband touts their commitment to lose weight and improve health. Local merchants will offer discounts on products and services for those who show their wristband at checkout.
- As an incentive to lose weight, individuals who lose five pounds will be receive a sports water bottle; those who lose 10 pounds will also receive a T-shirt. As a further incentive to get ‘off the couch and into action’, the program will award a $1,000 cash prize in October 2005 and January and April of 2006 to a lucky resident chosen in each Northeastern Pennsylvania county who has lost at least 10 pounds. Every person who has lost 10 pounds will be entered into this fall contest drawing. For every additional five pounds lost after the original 10, participants will receive additional entries into the sweepstakes. - Karen was featured along with Cheryl Gamber, RD, LDN during the live evening broadcast of WVIA channel 44 program: “Call the Doctor” on October 18, 2005. The program ran as an hour-long live call-in format. Viewers in North Eastern Pennsylvania called to ask questions about nutrition and how to stock a healthy pantry.
