What is a PAC?

A political action committee (PAC) allows individuals to combine their money to support legislators who share their interests.  In the case of PADA, the interest is food and nutrition issues.  Whether it is a nutrition interest or a legislative issue that surrounds nutrition, it is to our benefit to have legislators that support and believe in our profession and in our message, get elected.  Basically, political action committees (PAC) are formed by people with a common interest, donations are collected and when issues come up, the PAC money is available to make contributions.

Why does PADAPAC need your donation?

As nutrition professionals, we are the experts and we are the most appropriate healthcare professional to provide nutrition services.  Further, we deserve insurance reimbursement and recognition for the services that we provide.  We have come a long way as a profession, but we have a long way to go.

PADAPAC has very limited funds yet we support a profession that needs to move forward.  We need to make sure that Pennsylvania legislators realize who we are and what we stand for.  Having a well-funded PAC serves a number of purposes, all of which benefit Dietitians, Dietetic Technicians and the clients that we serve.  To name a few:

?We can make legislators more aware of whom we are by making donations and appearances at fundraisers and political events

?We can provide increased visibility to the issues that PADA members care about

?We show that we are politically “up-to-date” and recognize that money is a necessary part of the campaigning and election process.

PADAPAC chooses very carefully who we give donations to- legislators who have supported our interest and our legislative issues in key committee positions.

Our current challenge, the 20/20 campaign:

In an attempt to increase the funds that PADAPAC has to pool from, we are launching the 20/20 campaign.  We are looking for a $20.00 donation from at least 20% of our members.  YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!  Please help us move the dietetics profession in Pennsylvania forward and spread the word that we are the nutrition experts!
