Inactive Status – This is an option for LDNs to use when they anticipate not working as an active LDN in PA. For example, temporarily moving out of the state but planning to return or not currently working in the field but plan to return to the field soon, etc.
During an inactive period the individual is not subject to the same rules and fees as an active LDN. Thus, they do not have to pay the biennial renewal fee during this period.
How to request inactive status – LDNs can request their license be placed on an inactive status by writing to the licensure board. The individual must include their licensure number in their letter and all relevant contact information. No fee is required to request your license be placed on an inactive status, fees are required to reactivate.
How to return to active status – When an individual wants to return to active status they must “submit proof of completion of a minimum of 30 hours of approved continuing professional education in the biennial period preceding the request for reactivation and pay all applicable fees.” If an individual has been on an inactive status for 5 years or longer they have to meet board requirements to return to an active status. The individual must write to the board, including licensure number and all relevant contact information to make the request.
