This bill is an amendment to the original bill passed in 2007. It prohibits any employer, employment agency or union from refusing to hire, firing, demoting or penalizing any employee because she breastfeeds or expresses breast milk while at the workplace. The employee would also be allowed to engage in those activities during a break period.
The amendment provides better definitions, is applicable to more situations and settings, specifies what can be done in cases of alleged violations, and requires the Department of Health and the Department of Labor and Industry to provide more information to employers and to the general public.
