Licensure process for new RD

Q- I am a student and have recently accepted a job in an outpatient setting.  As a stipulation of the hiring, the company needed to know what the earliest would be that I could take the registration exam and receive a Dietitian-Nutritionist (LDN) license. Can you tell me how long the licensure process will take?

A- After you take the RD exam and pass then apply for licensure.  You can get the information on how to apply, where to get the application from our website- Click Here.  Follow all the instructions and send in, you must complete and send in via US Postal service.  Send via registered mail and request a receipt, so you have documentation of applying for yourself and your employer.  Once your application is processed by the licensure board and you are granted licensure your name will be added to the state website. Here you can check your licensure status and so can any employer.  Your name will appear on the website before you actually get the certificate in the mail, because that part of the process is done somewhere else.   The state website to verify licenses is http://www.licensepa.state.pa.us/default.asp.  It will probably still take a few weeks, but you will be able to monitor online and so can your employer.
