My 23 year career in nutrition has taken me to variety of interesting job settings.  Currently, I work for Weis Markets as a registered dietitian with their HealthyBites program.  HealthyBites is a consumer based nutrition education program providing nutrition information through newsletters, consumer education programs, grocery store tours, media events and point of purchase information at all Weis Stores.

Originally, I started out in broadcast journalism at Penn State and switched majors four times before landing in nutrition because I missed the sciences and I really enjoyed working with food.  I graduated from Penn State in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree in science in nutrition and dietetics.  I completed my dietetic internship at Baltimore’s Mercy Hospital in 1984.

Looking back, I wish I would have continued to work for the college paper and radio station after I switched majors but there wasn't a lot of advising in those days to combine skills.  I have used many of my journalism skills over the years. For three years, I wrote a weekly nutrition column for the newspaper in York, PA and have been interviewed many times on television and radio.  Prior to working for Weis Markets, I wrote and edited nutrition information for a registered dietitian who has an email health and nutrition information service.   At Weis Markets, I write copy for press releases, HealthyBites circular ads, radio nutrition tips and television nutrition news broadcasts.  I have used these skills serving as State Media Representative and Public Relations Committee co-chairperson for the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association.

I also worked in more traditional settings.  I started as a clinical dietitian for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore.  My next job was as a nutrition educator and medical nutrition therapist for four out- patient clinics in inner city Baltimore.  After moving to Hanover Pennsylvania, I worked as the public health nutritionist for the York City Bureau of Health.

For twelve years, I had my own private practice and contracted with Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield (in Pittsburgh) and Highmark Blue Shield (in Camp Hill) to provide wellness and nutrition counseling services.

I have devoted my career to helping consumers understand why and how to make healthier lifestyle choices.   I have been fortunate that my career in nutrition has provided flexibility enabling me to continue my professional pursuits while enjoying time with my family.

Please email me if you have any questions.
