I am a Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) with an Associates Degree from Holyoke Community College in Massachusetts . As a Registered Technician, I engage in direct patient care including screenings, assessment, plan of care and care rounds, supplementation, and patient education. In my 17-year career, I have worked in four acute care hospitals, including Dartmouth Medical Center and Hershey Medical Center . While at the Hershey Medical Center , I gained valuable experience as a member of the Nutrition Support Team.
As a DTR at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem , I chart in the computerized medial record. I am partnered with a registered dietitian with whom I divide the patient care units, based on hospital priorities and the patient's level of nutritional risk. I attend continuing education classes in order to maintain my credentials.
I am active in the Lehigh Valley Dietetic Association where I served as the Chairman for the Council on Practice and set up the continuing education activities for the entire Dietetic Association. As a result of my extra efforts and my dedication to the profession, I was
recently tapped to represent the DTR's at the state dietetic association (PADA) board meetings. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career as a Dietetic Technician and I am currently working with PADA toward a form of licensure for DTR's as a way to enhance the profession and to encourage more aspiring young individuals to choose Registered Dietetic Technician as a profession.
