Does all the holiday eating leave you feeling bloated?\u00a0 Changes in eating patterns, even short-term, can affect your GI tract. Bloating, gas, heartburn, and water retention can all be symptoms of eating too many foods that are high in sugar, fat, and\/or salt. Of course eating too much in volume can make us feel not so great too.<\/p>\n<p>This is also the time of year when you hear about different cleanses and detoxes that will help rid your body of toxins acquired during holiday indulging.\u00a0 Don\u2019t waste your time or money. Your body is well equipped to rid itself of waste and toxins without assistance.\u00a0 Scientific evidence is extremely lacking in this area.\u00a0 Most evidence that suggests that cleanses or detoxes are beneficial is anecdotal.\u00a0 Your body will get itself back on track in time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drink\u00a0<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"238\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3696 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dev.eatrightpa.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/infused-water-238x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><strong>lots of water<\/strong>: water will help your body filter out any waste and toxins in your body, so drink up.\u00a0 There are varying recommendations regarding just how much fluid to consume. A good\u00a0rule of thumb is to look to your body for signs. Your urine should be pale yellow or clear when you are well hydrated.<\/p>\n<p>If you dislike water, flavor water with fresh fruit such as lemons, strawberries, oranges, limes, and berries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nourishedsimply.com\/strawberry-citrus-infused-water\/\">Strawberry Citrus Infused Water<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eat more fiber<\/strong>: fibrous foods help eliminate waste from our GI tract.\u00a0Colon cleanses may be tempting, but we don\u2019t need to do something like this.\u00a0 Eating fruit, vegetables, and whole grains will help clean you out safely and naturally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3695 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/dev.eatrightpa.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/salad-quino-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"396\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nourishedsimply.com\/quinoa-greek-salad-for-one\/\">Quinoa Greek Salad<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise<\/strong>: working up a good sweat during exercise will help eliminate waste through your skin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eat more fruits and vegetables<\/strong>: not only are these foods excellent sources of fiber, they also contain antioxidants and phytochemicals that help protect our bodies from damage caused by toxins in our food and environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3694 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dev.eatrightpa.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/strawberry-banana-smoothie2-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"336\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pre and Probiotics<\/strong>: Our large intestine is filled with good bacteria, which has several jobs including digestion, immunity, and protection from bad bacteria. Prebiotics and probiotics are both found in food that helps maintain the health of our intestinal bacteria. Prebiotics, which are carbohydrates, feed our bacteria.
