The program was launched in 2014 by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodallergy.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to raise awareness of food allergies and promote the inclusion of all trick-or-treaters during the Halloween season. Children with food allergies frequently are unable to fully enjoy or experience celebrations like Halloween that are heavily filled with food. Traditional candy treats often contain peanuts, tree nuts, and other potential allergens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodallergy.org\/education-awareness\/teal-pumpkin-project\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teal Pumpkin Project\u00a0pledge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offer a non-food treat to trick-or-treaters to provide safe treats to kids with allergies, which as a result, includes everyone. All you need to do is paint a pumpkin teal or purchase one and place it outside of your home to let parents and children know that they can get a safe treat this Halloween. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodallergy.org\/education-awareness\/teal-pumpkin-project\/free-resources\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FARE<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also has signs and other materials that you can download to help let others know about your pledge. FARE also has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodallergy.org\/education-awareness\/teal-pumpkin-project\/ideas-for-non-food-treats\">a list of non-food treats<\/a> that you can include such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glow sticks, bracelets, or necklaces<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pencils, pens, crayons or markers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bubbles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halloween erasers or pencil toppers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mini Slinkies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whistles, kazoos, or noisemakers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bouncy balls<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finger puppets or novelty toys<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coins<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spider rings<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vampire fangs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mini notepads<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing cards<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bookmarks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stickers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stencils<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can still give out candy, but make sure the candy is separated from the non-food treats.
