Congratulations to Juliet Mancino, MS, RDN, CDE, CCRC, FAND, originally of Beaver, of Cranberry Township who was named Outstanding Dietitian of the Year from the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The award is the highest honor bestowed upon a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and recognizes a Pennsylvania dietitian whose leadership and service is exemplary and whose contributions to PAND and the pubic have been longstanding and exceptional.
Juliet Mancino has had a career focus in research in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and weight management. Her continual curiosity of what is the science behind what we do – has been a driving force in her career. Alongside that is a devotion to and love for students so serving as mentor, preceptor and faculty has been continual. You may know her as Julie from her years at Pitt, where she has worked for 24 years or Juliet, which was which was how she was known as a clinician at The Medical Center-Beaver, where there were 3 other Julie’s in the department. She is a true-blue Pitt girl: getting her RD-eligible status in the first the accredited program class at Pitt; working there in her 20s, earning her Masters, and coming back to work in 2001. She has been employed in 3 divisions: Pulmonology, Endocrinology and Geriatrics; in the Schools of Education and Nursing, and currently in the Human Research Protection Office, where she is the first RD to become a Research Regulatory Review Analyst. Her years at Pitt have allowed her and her husband Joe to see both of their children graduate from Pitt. She continues her love of teaching at the Duquesne University School of Nursing, teaching nutrition to freshman, who are required to address her as Professor Mancino. She is happy for you to know her as Julie and at any Pitt event, give a good “Hail to Pitt!”
